ABOUT
My name is Mavi Pilloton (they/them), and I am a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Director/Program Designer and LGBTQ+ Educator. Throughout my career, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to explore many different fields, continue my education, and build a career that is unique to my skillset and passions. I am an experienced Program Director with over 10 years of experience in education and intersectional queer/trans programming in education and health equity. I am highly organized, passionate, proactive, and effective at communicating, and I am proud of how I am able to build and maintain connections with staff, stakeholders, and community agencies.
In recognizing the toll that social justice work can take on someone, especially someone with lived experience, I am often asked, “What makes you come back to work every day? What drives you to keep going?” The jobs that I have held have not been easy, as I often have to work at a rapid pace with a seemingly never-ending to-do list all while we are impacted, as a community and individually, by the current political onslaught aimed at the queer and trans community. But I wake up every morning and continue to do the work, because I am proud of who I am and the communities I'm a part of, I am eager to learn and serve, and I like the challenge of leading and solving complex problems.
Throughout my career, whether I was directing the San Francisco Giants' annual Junior Giants Festival as the Lead Ambassador, interacting with fans to enhance their experience as Golden State Warriors games as Event Staff, coaching high school basketball, running an after-school program, or developing and leading professional development opportunities, my goal has always remained the same. In order to combat the conditions that are born out of a society built upon patriarchal values, cissexism, racism, ableism, ageism, and heteronormativity, etc, I want to create more inclusive, equitable spaces for historically marginalized communities that provide the support, empowerment, language, data, resources, education, and opportunities for the folks that need it.
This work is what I live and breathe. I continue to do this work, because I have hope, I have confidence in my abilities, I have important knowledge and lived experience to share, and I always want to strengthen my practices and build connections. I look forward to connecting and learning alongside you.
